The University of Alaska Fairbanks was established in 1917, 42 years before Alaska became a state. It offers a variety of academic programs from accounting to Yup’ik language and culture. The university's campus is located on the ancestral lands of the Dena people of the lower Tanana River, and it has additional campuses in Kotzebue, Bethel, Nome, Dillingham, Kodiak, Juneau, and Toolik Lake.
