The Centro Universitario de Occidente (CUNOC) was established by the Honorable Superior University Council on December 5, 1970, with the aim to provide higher education and create new programs according to the demands and needs of development in the south-western region of Guatemala. It is an academic unit of the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, responsible for facilitating and developing state higher education in its area of influence, executing and promoting research, extension, and teaching, to propose solutions for regional and national problems, disseminate culture in all its manifestations, and improve the spiritual level of inhabitants through the formation of highly qualified professionals with solid ethical formation, capable of contributing to the sustainable development of Central America.
